How to Use Data Frames to Evaluate Learners' Performance?

A data frame is a tabular structure that comprises rows and columns, where each column denotes a different thing you want to measure,, and each row signifies an observation or record. Data frames are widely used to organize and analyze data in various domains, including education.

One of the most significant applications of data frames in education is evaluating learners' knowledge and understanding of a particular subject or topic. For instance, an educator can create a quiz to test students' knowledge of world capitals and currencies, where each question consists of three parts: the country name, the capital city, and the currency used in that country. To answer this, students can fill in their responses in a table with three columns, one for each part of the question.

Here's how you can follow these steps to create a data frame question:

Access the desired classroom and click on add block to search for the data frame.
Select the data frame block and provide a suitable description, if necessary.
Fill in the columns & rows with the correct variables and answers horizontally.
Configure the data frame settings based on convenience, such as revealing the structure to learners or allowing them to add more rows.
Add hints, if required, by checking the show hint box. Next click on save.
Finally, make the changes live.

After creating the data frame, learners can access it and fill in their answers. Once submitted, the system automatically evaluates the responses and shows an overall score upfront, saving the educator's time and effort in grading each response manually.

To experience the learners' view of a data frame question, you can follow these steps:

Access the visit user side option on the top right.
Select the classroom. Click on resume learning to next click data frame block to experience it as a learner.
Fill in the rows and columns with appropriate answers and submit to view their score instantly.

In a data frame, the rows and columns can be arranged in any order that the learner desires, and they do not have to maintain a specific chronological order.

This is just one example of how data frames can be used for automated grading in an educational context. By using data frames to organize and analyze student responses, educators can save time and provide learners with quick and accurate feedback on their performance.
